Kahlua and Coffee Trailer
Started auditions for Blend, the second in a series of collaborations with Andy Jordan; the first of which was Kahlua and coffee. Hopefully we'll edit and screen three short films by Christmas.

More Editing

Its also worth mentioning the rough cut of Kahlua and Coffee is in the works. I'm getting 2 pickup shots tomorrow after work, and then there wont be any excuses to not finish it. Here are a few of the screenshots. God bless Chris and his DVX for allowing me to capture such rich colors for the piece.

Back to Editing
I recently started work on the third episode of Friends of a Thing Called Water (Alyssa's character Selma's introduction) after having been away for a few weeks. I'm excited its the best of the first three episodes. I'm also excited though to be moving on to the fourth and fifth episodes.
This first batch has been very funny and fairly sucessfully initially on Youtube but i can see why their views have sort of stalled out. The first episodes are all about getting to know the characters, the good stuff comes once this is established.
I uploaded the tape we shot episode five on and i was amazed at what we had captured that day. It was the first episode involving the entire cult cast of five and the result is a batch of material i'm hesitant to cut much out of at all. I know i'll need to and I will but it'll be tough.
I'm excited for the future of this little side project youtube series. I feel the best is yet to come. Here are a few screenshots from episode five, in which during a last supper themed lunch, Phil is laughed at for his condition and the spastic faces he makes. Jeremy (J) begins to entice Selma by giving her a ride on the lawnmower, and Allen demonstrates the rituals of the group.
Letter From My Cousin Kathy

Click on each image to enlarge it. This was a letter from my cousin Kathy. She's into the whole wine scene and occasionally meets some distinguished individuals from the film world. The joke about making a living in the arts community is to give up and become a lawyer. Sometimes it feels like the kid from A Christmas Story when people keep telling him he'll shoot his eye out.

I will never be a lawyer.

As I typed my first post I had a random urge to read up on Ingmar Bergman's Biography. Two hours later my friend Chris told me he died today. The death of an artistic legend. Fanny and Alexander is one of the most breathtaking films I have ever seen and has been in my top 5 for the last two years. While I have only ever seen a handful of his films, I always revered him as one of the best directors whose work I have been lucky enough to have known. Death was a common theme strung through much of his body of work. I wonder what it was for him. God bless and rest him.
Gotta Start Somewhere

Today is my first day back to Portland from my trip to Dayton, Ohio to see family and old friends. Work starts up for me any minute. I'm currently stationed at an advertising agency specializing in direct marketing video production. They make national TV spots and infomercials. Tomorrow, production starts up for a product called the "WorkSharp" which sharpens tools in seconds!

...how exciting. ...well, I'll be easy on the sarcasm, it could be worse. At least I am working around all of the same equipment I want to be around. They've got a DVX 100B just sitting around in the studio. Its just one small piece of the production puzzle sitting in there.
If nothing else this job is interesting because as an intern I'll occasionally hand-model the products. Then, a few years from now I'll be watching late night TV and see my hands. Crazy.
The Dayton trip went well, and in terms of moving Out of Line Productions forward it was good as well. My old friends are forming bands and albums much more productively than anyone I know out here. One buddy just got signed, and others are rumored to be signed soon. This means good music which I could possibly use for cheap or free on future projects, or even Kahlua and Coffee, which I may still sail into festival territory. Also, a good conversation with an actor friend which may have inspired a new project. I'm thinking about working with him in the way that the band The Postal Service did, doing each part from their own homes across the country.
Now that I'm back I'll be working and reading and editing, editing, editing.
P.S. - I'll also be watching a lot of Cassavetes. My parents bought me his 5 Films Criterion Collection for my birthday. :)
